Day of Caring 2022

The United Way’s 2022 Day of Caring was held on May 12, 2022. Six volunteers from Collins Aerospace and seven volunteers from Mercy joined Willis Dady staff to complete two projects:

Collins Aerospace volunteers worked on landscaping at Willis Dady Works. They pulled up weeds and added fresh mulch. What is Willis Dady Works? Our employment hub will provide workforce training, one-on-one case management, direct employment, and a social enterprise warehouse to help those experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Some staff offices are also located on-site in addition to the offices at the emergency shelter.

Mercy volunteers gave one of our porches a facelift. They scraped off old paint and then applied a fresh coat. Why are we renovating this house? It will be a home for four clients in Willis Dady’s Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) Program. This will be our first PSH house that is specifically for veterans. PSH combines three elements: a standard and renewable lease (that is renewable indefinitely), on-site case management, and rent capped at 30% of the household’s income. PSH is a good fit for people who have repeatedly cycled through homelessness.
