Mattress Recycling Shipment Day

At the end of June, our mattress recycling team was able to send out their first shipment. This marks a major milestone for our program. It's a long process to get ready for shipment, and we are so proud of our team for reaching this point! Learn more through the steps below:

Mattresses are received through our warehouse doors, weighed, and set aside to be processed.

Once we had enough bales to fill a semi truck, we were ready to ship them out. For our first shipment, Willis Dady's Facilities Director, Steven, operated the fork lift. He picked up bales from the warehouse and took them over to the dock to be loaded.

We used the dock at the nearby Chandler Pump Apartments to lift the bales high enough to go into the semi truck.

Mattress recycling team members worked with our Employment Services Director, Dave, and our Maintenance & Custodial Technician, George. They used a pallet jack to transport the bales from the fork lift to the semi.

Once the semi was full, it was ready to deliver the materials to our customers. One use of these recyclable materials is to make carpet backing!

Thank you to everyone who brings their mattresses to us to divert waste from the landfill. It's only $10 for Linn County residents! Read more about dropping off a mattress on our program page: https://www.willisdady.org/mattress-recycling.
