Cedar Rapids Marathon Partnership

Much like training for a marathon, training to re-enter the workforce takes time, dedication, and a plan. Case managers work with clients to develop a step-by-step plan focused on stability in housing and employment. Clients are often referred to Willis Dady’s Employment Program for additional supports.
One of these Employment Programs is Litter Abatement. This is a partnership with the City of Cedar Rapids. Our Litter Abatement Team supports the local businesses and neighborhoods of Cedar Rapids by making our streets and sidewalks clean, and they take pride in the work they do. This work is far more than just picking up trash; it’s creating a safe, clean environment that everyone can enjoy.
We are excited to share that representatives from this program were tasked with assisting with the first inaugural Cedar Rapids marathon! “We were honored to be asked to be involved in this event. Our clients are a part of the community and are eager to contribute to it!” shared David Karpick, Interim Executive Director at Willis Dady.
When asked about her experience in the program, one representative shared, “I love it! I love getting to walk and be outside.” Another said, “We have had people come up to us and tell us about how good of a job we are doing.”
Representatives in the Litter Abatement program gain employment skills and experience. Case management empowers clients to re-enter the workforce with individualized support, addressing their barriers to maintaining stable employment. It takes encouragement and hard work to run a marathon, and we take the same approach to coach clients to build futures of self-sufficiency.
